On the Nature of Progress

Things must be worked at constantly. Things do not just exist as givens. Nothing is given. Everything is made, everything is grown and each cell does a job to create something. One movement is not enough. One step does not get you anywhere. Forward movement is not agitation: it freefalls like a waterfall.

Things do not exist as givens. Things must worked to keep them anew, kept alive. Muscles fade. Memories fade. The word of the Lord is forever, but that must be read over and over.
